Activities

When we expose children to different environments and varied learning experiences, we allow them to explore their self-awareness and gain a sense of the world around them.

What we get up to

Here at Wymeswold Preschool we want to help our children learn and develop through play and we think it is really important that all our activities are stimulating, engaging and fun. This is at the heart of everything we do.

Here are just a few examples of the things we get up to:

cooking, reading,  loose parts play, gardening, making bug homes, number hunts, messy play - sand, water, cornflour, spaghetti, play dough.

role play - shop, hair dressers, doctors, vets, builders, dressing up.

arts and crafts - making puppets to use with our puppet theatre, painting, drawing, colouring, space rockets, conker caterpillars.

And that is just the beginning.

We have weekly Forest School sessions for all children to experience. These are run by a fully qualified Forest School teacher.
Forest school is an ethos which encourages the development of children’s emotional and physical skills and intelligence through outdoor play, activities and exploration in a woodland environment. The philosophy of Forest School is to encourage and inspire children of any age through positive experiences that are engaging and motivating. Each session is different and varies week by week.

Forest School runs on a different day each week, allowing all of our children to benefit from the amazing experiences these sessions provide. We are lucky enough to have access to the village Scout hut and grounds which is where we run our Forest School sessions. Some of our Forest School activities include; putting up shelters, scavenger hunts, creating bug hotels, making rope ladders, enjoying hot chocolate and campfire treats and of course, having lots of fun!

View our Facebook page to see some of the other activities we have done during our Forest School sessions.

We have also introduced fortnightly sports sessions which are led by an external sports coach Sam Clements and fortnightly street dance sessions run by Maria from Lil Beatz. These sessions are great fun , help prepare our children for school as well as learning about exercise and healthy eating.
